duals on a 1086

I want to put duals on a IH 1086, for floatation. Got a spare set of centers, looks close but might be able to bolt an extra set on the axle. My question is how concerned should I be on axle loading(breaking an axle, excessive bearing loading etc.)

My 1086 has spent maybe 10,000 of it's 16,000 hours with duals without a hint of trouble. A lot of that time was spent with 3 point implements handging on the back. By 'centers' do you mean hubs? For awhile I put rim clamp duals on the 10 but the rear wheel hubs kept loosening up from the twist, so I got rid of the rim clamp duals and put on hub-types. Haven't had an ounce of trouble since then. Jim

We have a few tractors in this area that use the same wheel (center) for the dual as the inside wheel. I think the reason stemmed from problems with the band style dual's. Most of course are using a regular dual hub. Important thing is to carry less air pressure in outer tire and use the tire with less thread as the dual if that is possible.

I've run clampons for over 30 years on a multitude of different tractors-from Sm to 1256.Never had a problem.

The hub loosening wasn't a constant problem but I did have to watch them. I'd tighten the hub, then give the axle a good rap with a sledge, then tighten some more but every so often a hub would be creaking a bit and needed another tightening. I've heard of clamp-on duals breaking hub wedges but I've never seen it happen. Jim

The ih hub is the most durable part of the whole tractor, easy to fix, in the field, when the tractor won't move, hooked to a disc, when it's fixing to rain, while trying to get the crop out.

I think he MIGHT mean another wheel set up as is allready on the tractor, meaning another cast center and ribbed rim as the duals, not just a hub dual and tin rim. This would be a heavier dual. Would this work? I looked into this once, but was not sure if the axles were long enough.

Thanks for all the input. I am going to attempt to mount another wheel set up as is already on the tractor, meaning another cast center and ribbed rim as the duals. We will see how it works! Thanks again

It will work fine. As I indicated that is the way some guys do it around here. Kind of expensive unless you have the spare parts wheels like you apparently have.
