Farmall 300 Lifter Issues

I have a Farmall 300 and have been having trouble with the lifters. I've broken a total of three within the past year (all from the same valve). When I reinstall the new lifter I make sure that it moves freely and gets enough oil supply from up top. Have any of you experienced this previously? If so, how did you go about correcting this issue? Please let me know. Thank you.
 
you talking about the rocker arm or lifters? the lifters or tappets sit on the camshaft and what do you mean by breaking? the rocker arm can break. if it is the rocker then maybe you have a tight valve and when it gets hot it gets stuck. the valve guide clearance could be too tight.
 
I am with Rustred. Solid lifters can wear from poor lube at the camshaft lobe surface, either cupping or doming from a bad lobe. (not common but not unheard of on a Farmall) The breakage would be way rare.
Rockers can and do break. Pushrods can bend, and often do if the valve gets stuck in the guide, but rockers will break if the pushrod is very straight and stiff. My guess would be a tight valve stem to guide, or (possibly) ice in the cylinder!!) If it is the lifter, and you take off the lifter cover plate to replace it, the camshaft is going to require replacement!!

Attached is a picture of the two most recent broken lifters. They are actually upside down. The bottom just breaks off and drops down into the pan (so I get the pleasure of taking off the pan every time this happens to). So that is what I'm dealing with (no broken rocker, no bent pushrod, just a broken lifter. Everything else looks fine, with the pushrods showing no wear). I've gone down and looked at the lobe on the cam, and it looks exactly like the others.

Any ideas? Once again, I've ran it with the tappet cover off and there is enough oil being spread around. I've also checked the gaps and all of those are consistent too.

ohh wow dont see that to often. the bore may be worn and they are cocking sideways a bit. just a suggestion. once the bottom breaks off does the top of it just get jammed and not fall down to damage the cam lobe?
 
I have never seen that but I would say the cam lobe is pushing the lifter off to the side while raising it. That would require a different camshaft. The 300 is known for gear coming loose on cam from nut loosening. If it hasn't already damaged block I would say that it will if you just put a new lifter back in it. I saw a cam bearing work it's way forward once and get under a lifter and held valve open. Never know what you find in these engines.

I will look to see if the cam shaft has moved forward/backward at all. Previously I had inspected the lobe and it was consistent with the others.

When it breaks the bottom falls down in the pan and the other piece just free floats in the bore. There was slight scarring in the last replacement but I used a bore cleaner to smooth it back down.
 
Repeated failure in the same position? I don't think the camshaft moving around is the the problem, since it doesn't affect any of the other lifters. Unless there is something wrong with the lobe, which you said there isn't. This does seem like an excessive bore clearance problem. Drop a good lifter in the bore and reach up through the bottom and see if the lifter moves laterally while resting on the camshaft. Or, if you have the stuff, mic the bore. To fix it, I think I would have a machinist make a lifter without any holes in the bottom half, perhaps also a little oversize if the bore is worn.
