rebuilding a f 20 oil pump

The pump housing is attached to the block. It is missing the gears, bottom plate and the oil pick up. The spare pump is complete but the nut above the drive gear at the camshaft has some weld on it. I don't know why. The key is not on the shaft to drive the gear that drives the pump. Can I use the parts from the spare pump, in the housing that is mounted to the block, or should I just swap out the pumps as a complete unit?
Thank you

I would just use the best parts from both to assemble one good one. I'm guessing the gear must have spun on the shaft and someone welded it?
Take the other housing and put the gears, etc from the other pump in it.

Sometimes you have to be creative to get the old stuff to run. Mix and match as necessary to make a complete pump. Just check the clearance between the end of the gears and the housing. You may have to sand the end of the housing or gears to get .002 or so.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if the gears would work correctly in a different pump than what they were intended to be in.
