I have a 856 that wont move. I had someone tell me that a valve got stuck and caused the ta to go bad. Does this sound like a possibility? If so I would like to just put in a ta eliminater kit, where can i find one and what do they cost. Also is this something that i could do myself? I have a shop and tools but am not familiar with this task but have plenty of time and enthusiasm. thanks for any input you amy have

things to consider for diagnosing a IH hydraulic T.A. A female splined collar attached to the pressure plate engages a splined hollow shaft that provides "live" power to: M.C.V. pump & circuit, hitch pump & p.t.o. . A solid shaft splines to the clutch disc. The m.c.v. circuit (among other things) provides for t.a. control & lubrication. If the sprag is catching it should pull the tractor even without m.c.v. function. If sprag is bad the t.a. lock up clutch should pull a very light load but you have to have m.c.v. function & a working lock up clutch thank u4 your patience

Does the teltale oil light come on when the clutch is depressed? if so the main clutch might be shredded. The friction facing can disintegrate, or the hub can fracture and spin with no drive at all. TAs are great. Eliminating it will only make the tractor less handy. I think an inspection plate can be removed to look at the drive and clutch. Analysis is best. What were the symptoms of its demise? Jim

There is no such thing as a "TA eliminator kit" for a 43 year old tractor.

Did this person who told you this BS about some stuck valve at least LOOK at the tractor and perform some diagnostics before he came to this conclusion?

HOW the tractor "stopped moving" is a lot more important than the fact that it doesn't move. There are 100 different reasons the tractor could stop moving.

Did the tractor just up and stop all at once?

TA going bad usually begins with the tractor stopping when you shift the TA once in a while. Then it gets more and more frequent until one side of the TA doesn't work at all. Eventually the tractor will start to slip on the other side, and then stop moving.

The TA going bad process literally takes weeks, if you're using the tractor every day.

i can get you a t/a elimater kit that mkirsch claims to be unavailable for around $450. but personally i would get a rebuilt t/a and install it. the same amount of work for not much more money.

I'm working on my 1206 now that had the low side out of the TA.Got a complete HD kit TA,all gaskets,Orings,Quil,MCV kit springs, gaskets, orings, pump, PTO gear, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing for 1500.The ta had the extra disks on both ends. And yes theirs a eliminater kits.No matter what you do the center section has to come out to do either of the two.

Thank you Randy!

Could be several things here as most have been covered. Yea it could be a stuck valve in the MCV but i will not say for sure .Since i can not check the tractor out myself. As far as a T/A eliminator kit yea you can install one , myself i am not a big fan of them for the cost and work involved ya might as well just install a new H D T /A and be done with it. that way you do not loose 1500 plus in resale value , don't ask how i know. If ya got a problem and can not figure it out i am not hard to get ahold of on the phone . Your to far for me to come and look at it and even help ya do it .
