He of the incredibly simple and useful Farmall wiring diagram. I used his 12v H/M conversion diagram to wire up a beat up old 1942 GMC Army truck being used for a woods truck (known locally as a "skipjack".) Original stovebolt six, converted to an alternator. Been sitting for a while, plus owned by a succession of owners who's only interest was to keep it running by whatever farmer-fix they had in their junk box. Alternator held on by rope (no, not kidding), resistor just hanging from the wiring, wires run through unprotected holes in the firewall, bare wires, wirenut splices, piggyback splices, about 14 miles of cheap electrical tape, bits of coat hangars (really!) every jury rig you can imagine.

Tore it all out, mounted the alternator properly, installed an ammeter, rewired it and it popped off in about 3 revolutions. Owner is a happy guy!

When I first looked at your picture I thought was a Dodge Power Wagon. That truck would be nice for pushing snow. The Army also had a GMC 2-1/2 ton in the early 1950's that had the hydramatic transmission. It shifted rough for an automatic. One of my Army buddy's had one of these truck's, but he sold it. He also had a Weasel that had a Studebaker engine and he sold that too. He now has a Dodge Ambulance used during the Korean War and WW2. This pic was taken at Ft Bragg when were in the Army. Hal

Couldn't say. I'm just getting it in shape for the feller that bought it.

I can say that riding up and down the driveway with those chains on will find any loose fillings!

Is that a Chevy or GMC? Looks like a Chevy 1-1/2ton to me. All of them were incredibly tough given just a little care.

Hey Fawteen - glad you found my wiring diagram helpful!

Incidentally my first ever 12 volt alternator conversion was to a '56 IHC farm dump that belonged to my father in law. The 12 volt alternator really "woke up" the tired 6 volt electrics on that old truck - it worked another 20+ years after I did the conversion.

Fawteen,I once had an old '58 chevy cabover 2ton wired just like yours,Lampcord, romex, baleing wire with a rag wraped around it....I ripped every thing out and rewired it.I had a 500ft roll of 14 gauge wire(yellow),Used crimpon/solderd joints.Worked good and EVERYTHING worked when I was done!

Well, the engine block has the classic semi-script GMC cast into it. That's what I based my decision on.

If I think of it, I'll look around and see if there's any other ID left on it.
