Farmall Super H Water Temp Gauge

My tractor ran fine until I changed my water temp gauge. Since then it seems to run rough, and what i believe is steam possibly smoke is coming from the port on the block where the temp gauge is screwed into. Also when I changed the gauge as soon as i took the old gauge probe out antifreeze came flowing out of the port. Is this normal. Does the pump need primed or anything like that. When the original gauge was in my antifreeze would get fairly warm but now it is cold almost like it isn't circulating. I didn't use any pipe dope or teflon tape. Is that needed.

The pipe dope or teflon tape will fix the leak. Yes it is normal for the coolant to run out, the end of the capillary tube in stuck in engine coolant, that's how it measures the temperature. By any chance is the port in the block near the distributor? Did you get the distributor wet or when it gets warm is it spraying coolant into the distributor? Did you refill the antifreeze? When messing around with the gauge did you do some collateral damage to carb or ignition?

I would expect something got wet that should not have. It is normal for coolant to come out. I would take the distributor cap off and dry/blow that out good.

Welcome to the forums. I can see from your post that you have fairly limited mechanical knowledge and skills. So this is a good place for you to imnprove them.
I would suugest two things that will help you along. One, do some reading both on the net and in tractor manuals. Get an owners manual for your SH off Ebay.
The other is perhaps on your next project post questions BEFORE you start.
When you replace the temp sensor, have the correct size bolt for a plug, while you install tape on the sensor. Then top off the radiator with 50-50- anti freeze/water. Be sure and leave the level a couple inches below the filler neck for expansion. Good Luck.
