Hello My generator is dead and I want to change it over to 12 volt can I put a 10SI Delco alternator on where the generator was. Will it turn the correct way for the alternator when you put it where the generator was I see some posts where the alternator needs to run one way Thanks

Thats where they put them same place as the original. Wouldnt it be easier to get the gen fixed so you dont need to rewire change the solenoid and so forth. The 340 isnt that big of an engine to turn over.

When I did the 340 we have I put the alternator right where the generator was. By the way it does not matter which side it is mounted it will still turn the same way and 99% of engines built turn the same way. The only way you can make it turn the other way would be to mount it so the pulley faced the rear of the machine

It will turn same direction as generator if pulley faces front of tractor and also, an alternator does not care which direction it turns, either way works.

It will turn the same direction regardless of the side of engine that it is installed on. I mounted the alternator on my H where the generator was.

I would recommend a 12V upgrade on any working tractor. The show tractors are another thing.

I changed my 340 to 12 volt using a 10si alternator and wouldn't go back to a 6-volt genny set up. working around the yard the battery charges much better on short trips and in the cold northern MN winters, that motor starts a lot easier on 12 volts. everyone has their own preferences. fortunately there are enough tractors around for us to each set them up our way.
