FFA Tractor Restoration

Was just going to show you guys some of our projects. The first picture is a 49 H that was the chapters first restoration. The second and third are of a 53 super m that had burned up. Last one is a 56 400 that had sat for 40 years and had seen several owners with good intentions until we found it.

Thats some amazing work there. I wish my school would have had an FFA. We are rural but so small there was never any interest. Congrats on the work. Those tractors look awesome!

It makes me feel good to see these being done by the younger people. Keep it up.

Working on equipment at this age kept me out of A LOT of trouble.( I could have been doing alot of NEGATIVE things as a teen.)

What a great thing, something to be proud of, hope all is appreciated. Kids will certainly
remember that too. I still recall doing our
Super M in FFA ag class and classmate did a
John Deere 70 the same time....we took pictures
of them together, wish I still had a print of that !

great job guys, in Ct we are working on a farmall C now, have 20 kids in the group, great bunch of kids, working on a second tractor so they might do a little pullin this spring

looks great.

I'm surprised someone hasn't whipped out an originality guide and blasted you for the black weights.

I think a lil color contrast makes everything pop, especially black and silver on red.

again, awesome pics, thanks for posting!

I talked to a kid here, in the Brown County Ohio, area, FFA, about doing my Farmall H as a project, but got a cold response. I had figured that as rural as this is the FFA would want a project like that, but I guess not.

I have no problem with the black color, I think it looks good. But, if the need should arise to slide those wheels either in or out on the axle, access to the bolts will be a whole lot easier if those weights are rotated 90°.

Beautiful. What do the FFA chapters do with the tractors when they are finished for the school year? Auction them?
thanks

I'm an advisor, would be interested in knowing some details of how you work this program. Things like funding, time use, etc. I have some boys coming up that might really like this next spring in our advanced mech. course.

I'm with you on that thought. I painted an 'H' for my uncles in '93 which was the first tractor my grandfather had bought and I painted the weights and the lugnuts black to make them standout more.

I also teach Ag (in Ohio) and we do several tractors per year. It works well when a community member needs their tractor/equipment repaired and Painted. We either have them furnish parts and supplies or we get them ourselves (fruit sale funds) and have them reimburse later.

Right now the kids are doing a hay rake for me, a JD A that is owned by a student, and we started building a light weight stock pulling tractor
From a farmall M that I recently bought. We have an AC to paint for the middle school principal later this year.

Thanks for all of the great responses guys. I was actually the student who started these projects back in 2008. Since then we have managed to come up with a very good system that continues to work well. As a matter of fact it worked so well that I was the National Agriculture Mechanics Repair and Maintenace winner in 2010. I have since graduated and am going to college but I still come back and help.

As for the questions regarding the process. The tractors are used as our chapters fundraisers. We sell $10 dollar chances on the tractors with every 100th ticket pulled beign a $50 dollar winner. So everyone has more than one chance to win the tractor. The H restoration was actually paid for through donations from local businesses and individuals who wanted to help. We try to find donated or cheap tractors to restore and mainly international because CNH gives us a lot of support. As a matter of Fact the Super M and the 400 were at the Case IH booth at the Farm Progress Show. The money is then used to take kids to conventions and whats left is used on the next tractor. My email is open to those of you who have more questions. JT

even on my IH cub, and my allis chalmers G, I painted the genny and starter black.. the black on orange 'pops' for my eyes too.

on my fords, I tend to shoot them chassie color, if they are installed.. if removed.. I go black.. or if I take them off to rebuild.. I make em black before reinstalling.
