A recent thread inquired about a tach drive. I responded that one could get the entire distributer for around $50 to $100 on eBay. In fact, one sold a few days later for somewhere around $100. For somebody who doesn't have the cast iron distributer housing, it is the only way to go.

Just saw on eBay where 9 bids have elevated a late model steel shaft tach drive (by itself) to $152.50. Three days left. No, I won't be bidding but I am curious to see where it closes. See link.

Nobody has indicated that the gear is available from a CaseIH dealer. Also curious about dealer availability and price. Might be less than the eBay auction when it closes. Don't really need one but I might put one on a SMTA along with a repro 400-450 tach. It would mount similar to a Cub tach.

Maybe its a different story now but the last time I checked the 2 items on the left in the picture were unavailable. One dealer shows the gear for $60.00 +.
 
The housing is no longer available but the gear is. You need to have the late style housing for the new gear or you can take the old style housing to a machine shop and have it reamed out as I did for my SMTA and it works great.
 
farmhand the gear and housing can be gotten new through Bates Corporation Bourbon,Indiana. Bought both about six months ago.
 
I was the one asking about the Tach drive. I finally found the newer gear, the one with a metal shaft at a case dealership, Hoober in Mcallister. Cost me 62.62 plus shipping ~15.00

They also said that the new housing would cost about 150.00 and not sure if he could get that either. So I am going to take my old housing and new gear to a machine shop and let them either shave off the new metal gear or widen the old housing to fit the new gear.

Not sure which is better, as I hope to never have to deal with this again :)
