Does anyone know what the "S-Y" means on the 706 serial number series. Perhaps it was used on other Farmall tractors. My dad had a 706 with a German diesel with serial 44178S-Y.

Thanks in advance.

Letter S means Equipped with Torque Amplifier.
Letter Y means Equipped with 12 GPM. Hydraulic pump.

My 806 has the same suffix.

Hello

We are from the Stuart, Iowa area. My dad bought the tractor in the late 70's from a neighbor who, I am sure, was the first owner. The engine ran like a dream (German 310) and the controls worked flawlessly. I spent a good portion of my life driving that tractor, listening to WHO radio while pulling a disc. The tractor eventually sat idle with steering problems and was traded to a nephew-in-law who had a friend that helped get it up and running again. He loves it and we are happy it is in a good home (too sentimental?).
