966 intermittant power steering

Got the fuel pump changed on my 966 today, this is the one that sat outside without running for 7 or 8 years. Runs nice and most everything is working except the power steering, it is working but very hard to turn most of the time, occasionally it works right for a couple seconds, usually real stiff and feels like it binds up a couple times going from lock to lock, but not in any particular position. It will steer manually with the engine off, PS acts like it works better for a little bit AFTER you try to steer it with the engine off. Going to start through the checklist tomorrow, any insight on what's wrong with it? The rest of the hydraulics and the brakes seem good. Thanks

Sounds like you have a suction problem, most likely the oring in the rearend/tran housing.make the hydro oil is full, then add 5 gallons.Change the filter, too.

I worked at a farm with a 1066 that began steering hard all the time. That one ended up needing the steering cylinder rebuilt. Just stabbing in the dark. I'm not a mechanic.
