Wiring diagram for 340 Indernational 12 volt conversion

Seeking help in rewiring my tractor;

340 International Industrial

12 volt alternator (3 wire) with external voltage regulator.

Many thanks to those that tried to help me last week, but I did not provide correct information about tractor"s electrical system.

Need wiring diagram with suggested wire guages.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Charles

We cant help much with an external regulator Alt. Diagrame are much more complex and need Car specific diagrams and the ability to carve out the pieces necessary to make it work. Hot rodders might have info on the methodology.
The wire from the Alt big terminal to the amp gauge must be 10ga. The wire from the amp gauge to the Starter switch/Relay/solenoid, can be 10 gauge with a Fuse link in it of 5 amps more than the alt output. The wires from the regulator to the alt can be 12ga (conservative but not under rated)
The remaining wires can be 14 gauge, but I like 12 gauge to make voltage get to where it is needed. Jim

I can not help as such but can tell you to have any one help you, you will need to know what brand alternator it is and how the wires are marked etc. There is probably at least 25 different alternators if not more that have the external V.R. and few of them are wired the same way

I have an IH 300 and it has been converted to 12 volt and has an alternator and 12 volt coil but still has a positive ground. I would like to switch to a negative ground and double check if the conversion was wired correctly. Does anyone know what needs to be done to switch to a negative ground and does anyone have a schematic to see if the wiring was done properly?

The regulator and diode bridge in the alternator must be changed to match the ground. There is no way to change it other than that. Almost all alternators in use today Delco 10SI and others are all pos ground. Easier to replace than modify. Someone on here will like it if offered. Jim

The link I provided in your other post is very detailed if you need to rewire the whole tractor.
It does not tell you wire sizes but Janicholson has suggested sizes.

I think you may have meant to post that most are Negative ground?

In the 10SI alternator the same regulator is used in either Positive or Negative ground. When used with negative ground the regulator is grounded to the case.

When used with positive ground the regulator terminal normally grounded is instead connected to the alternator output terminal. The number two terminal is connected to the alternator case and the number one terminal is excited by making a connection to the case. As a result the Positive ground alternator is much more complicated to wire if you are not using a one wire, self exciting regulator.

Thanks to everyone for the help! It was the alternator, unhooked it and it fired right up. Got a new negatively grounded alternator and it works great. thanks again.
