i have a 1953 super-a farmall tractor that had a carter carb on it that has never been right been rebuilt 5 times still not right . so i bought a nos zenith carb that fit on it right, but it seems to run better with the choke out just a little.it has a high speed miss. had the numbers checked to see what it was suppose to fit . the store said that it was for a ih power unit and it would not work on a tractor they said that it would cost more to fix it than a new carb would be. even if it was for a ih power unit sould it not run ok on my tractor with out a high speed miss and why could i not just put a larger jet in it. any help out there for me? thanks keith

i could not figure it out. the carb shop said that the ih power unit was different you would have to change everything in it. it was made to sit still??? keith

The guy at the carb shop is blowing smoke. My experience is there's no difference between IHC tractor and power unit carbs.

However just because a carb is new doesn't mean it's calibrated correctly. From your description (gotta pull the choke a bit for it to run good at speed) the main fuel metering circuit is running too lean. Could be the wrong (too small) main jet was installed, or the main jet is improperly machined or has a burr on it.

Your best bet is to identify the size of the main jet in your carburetor now then replace it with one the next size larger.

I have a zenith 11118 on a 230. It was a carb made for a power unit. If the float level is not set right it can make it run rich or lean. Carb should work if adjusted right.

Same as on our Super C. We had to set the float 3 times to get it to run right. Try setting the float a little higher to get more gas. If you get the level too high in the carb, it will blow black smoke.

Flopguns, tell those idiots at the part store to buzz off. It will work. Power units and tractors had the same block, head options, etc. Not sure what school of stupidity those jokers went to, but they must have been at the head of their class..........

i won,t to thank everyone for the information will check float level and jet size and post what i found out keith
