706 HITCH PUMP QUESTION

On the outer side of pump facing the cover plate, should the small hole have an oring to prevent bypassing, or should it be left without one? My 706 would not lift the loader off the ground at W O throttle, and wouldn't lift the 3pt at an idle, but would lift it with a little throttle, was wondering if the open port had anything to do with this????? Is there an oring groove around the 'hole'?If yes,o ring is required.When is the last time the hydralic filter was changed?A plugged filter will produce those symtoms.
 
Changed the filter as soon as I got the loader on and it wouldn't pick it up, uncles 460 done that once and a new filter solved it, as to the groove yes it has a groove around it, but no oring, I looked around the floor and oil bucket in case it just fell off, but haven't seen it. Doesn't look like it was ever there, no signs of wear or anything on the cover plate where it should have been in contact with it. I'll try to upload a photo....Thanks Matt

Yep,that hole must have an oring.the large hole is the suction.the small hole is the discharge/ pressure.Install new orings on both .
 
The small hole doesn't have anywhere to discharge to.....It will be flat against the cover plate Here is a photo. None the less I understand it needs an O-Ring, but whats the hole for, is it for a piggyback? Has my oil been bypassing/re-circulating and going no where? Thanks for the Help Delta Red!! Just bought it and thought I was gonna have to buy a pump right off the bat. :lol: ........Matt

You got me!something is notright.Wrong pump?I havent been into one of those for a while.someone else will have to answer this...Sorry.
 
After further investigation of that smaller port, I don't believe it goes anywhere. Looking at it like in the picture, it looks to me as if it goes about 3/4" deep, then makes a 90 degree turn down, which is the back of the pump that has a cover with 4 bolts and a gasket holding it on.... :?: ......Is there a way to test these pumps after removing them? I can spin it and get a little suction on either of the large ports front or back, but it won't hold it, as soon as I quit spinning, the suction is gone...(natrually I have to reverse the spinning to get suction on the other side).........TIA Matt
 
That pump is also used in piggy back installations
and then the plate comes off the back and another
pump goes on there and that would be the discharge
for that pump. No o-ring needed on yours. If you
still have pump off, put aux valve on demand, apply
air pressure to port in rear frame and listen for
leaks, should be none or just a tad if any. With aux
in neutral it should blow through. May have a blown
sealing ring on rear cover.
 
Pete, are you refering to the remote? Unscrew coupler, apply air pressure with remote lever in forward or rear postion, and I shouldn't hear air? Where should I listen? Where the pump should be???? Can I test the pump with it off the tractor?.......Thanks Matt
 
I am talking about the port in rear frame where
you took the pump off. When you put the aux valve
on demand you are blocking flow so any air you
hear leaking is from a problem area. Another
thing with those pumps is the short suction tube
between pump and filter housing. If you want to do
things correctly, you remove the filter and the
retainer filter fits into inside so you can
install the tube after you have the pump bolted
back on tractor but before you tighten it down.
That little lip seal the tube goes through is
usually in need of replacing and can be tricky to
get in without damaging it. I had my own little
driver made for that job. For me it just goes with
a pump replacement or removal job.
 
I tried that and got gergling in all three positions. I have a gas compressor, so it was hard to be very accurate over the noise. Then I realized I still had the loader hoses hooked up, that shouldn't have mattered should it?? Where is the sealing ring at, and what does replacing that consist of? Do I have to split it to get to it??? Thanks again....Matt
