Adjustable seat modification?

Today my 7 year old sat on my '44 H. When he couldn't reach the brakes I wanted to adjust the seat forward. As you know, it takes 4 bolts to move the seat position, so I couldn't.
I'm 6'4", so I have the seat set all the way back. Has anyone ever seen or heard of a modification where you can easily... or more easily than taking out 4 bolts... move the seat forward and back?

And heres a kicker: I'd like to retain an original look to it. Got any ideas?

I have a seat assembly off a Case VAC that has a front and rear
position that it sort of flips between, however it is not pretty and
would not match the styling of your H, I don't think.

Mike, I re-read your question, and I misunderstood the first time. I'll poke around and see what I can find.

I am sure others will weigh in here.

If you can't find the seat setup you want you could do what my dad did when i was a kid. He made a set of wooden blocks that fit the pedals. He had them made so he could take them off and on in several minutes.

Get a Ferguson? I seen a kid driving a John Deere
once and he wasn't much taller than the clutch
lever. He had to grab it with both hands to stop. If
you could install an M&W hand clutch I think that
would be a nice option. You have another smaller boy
coming on too don't you?

Solidity of a H seat is critical. Falling off the back is very likely a death sentence. if implements are attached. I would make am extension of the regular seat pan from 3/4 plywood such that He can sit on that portion sticking forward. A bicycle seat mounted to it might work. It must clear the shifter!
You will be on it with him as long as he is too small to be driving it from the real seat.
Expectations of independent operation depend on fields of space to drive in, not a suburban community. I would not change the original any. Jim

You know, times have sure changed, or maybe we just have a bunch of city folks here that never were on a tractor at the age of 7. I WAS!! By the time I was 7 I could operate just about every piece of equipment Dad had. When I was 8 I did all of his haying by my self. If any of you want to call BS, I got the pictures to back it up. Teach the kids how to operate a tractor correctly, and with respect. What a great way to spend time together.

Not this crap again.

Tell you what. I don't need members of this forum telling me how to parent. I'm not going to spend any time explaining how I am safe with my kids and my tractor. I had that before in here, and it was ridiculous. Just know that I am safe with my kids, and I don't need commentary to the contrary.

He'll be 8 by the time I'm back from my deployment anyway. Maybe 8 meets requirements?

Thank you for the comments so far. I'll just keep it as is.

Mike, do it the way YOU want to do it. It's your tractor, and your son is YOUR son. It is YOU who knows what your son is capable of. I was cutting hay with my fathers Farmall H equipped with a John deere #5 sickle mower all alone at least by the age of 9 or 10 and had spent several hours doing that same job at a much younger age, but with dad riding along teaching me what I needed to know. I'm sure I was short enough at 9 years old that I was probably setting on the forward edge of the seat so my legs could reach the clutch and brake pedals. Learning to drive a car will be second nature to anyone who grew up driving a farm tractor.

I wonder if the pedals off an M will work? Not sure of the shaft size, but the pedal shafts are curved. But, it may be a while before your 7 year old can do much of anything with that tractor. 1st one I drove was a B. I don't think I drove an H until I was 12, although I probably could have at age 9 or 10. My dad was going to start me working in the field at 11, but I fell off my bicycle into a dry irrigation ditch that spring and broke my arm. I agree that it helps drive a car if he drove the tractor first.

I just bought a new suspension seat for my 660 on eBay for $90 delivered. I am currently making a tilt frame for it so I can get into my toolbox. The seat assembly easily slides about 5". It has a wrap around arm rests and provisions for a seat belt. It's safer and much more comfortable than sitting on a steel pan. With a little thought and fabrication time, you should be able to swap seat assemblies in under several minutes. It is made by Tisco. See link for eBay listing. For some reason the new listing has gone up $4.00. I may post pictures tomorrow.

I think the Knoedler seat is adjustable without tools. I don't think four bolts is that outrageous when changing the seat position in the first place. If using tools is too much work, buy four extra bolts and weld some tabs of metal onto them to turn them into winged bolts. Then you could just turn them in and out by hand.
If you are going to drive it just to move it you wouldn't need to change the seat position anyhow. We have people running our machines from 5'6" to 6'+ with the same seat position. I know there is an even bigger difference from a 4' tall second grader to an adult, but it is something to be dealt with. Is he strong enough to push the clutch in all the way? I would also look into the M&W (or look alike) clutch cheater thing that makes it easier to push.

Mike, Look at the seats on SH that has the battery under the seat. It has a lift pin that you pull up, and slide the seat fore and aft. That's whay tou want.
I have the battery box top for that rig you can have for shipping.

Thanks for the offer, bud, but I'm going to stick with stock. My oldest is 5'2" at 11 years old, so he's fine. My younger ones I'll be on the tractor with them anyway, so we'll be fine.

Thanks for the offer, and good to see you! I'm leaving on cruise again in a few days, so, you'll see me back on next summer!

Here is an idea to consider. Buy a second H, and while you are gone, let the kids fix it, clean it up, paint it and so forth, and mount its seat to fit them. They will LOVE having something to work on "for Daddy" while you are gone, gives them something to be excited about to tell you their progress when you can call, or to write to you about when you can't, and teaches them patience and perseverance as well, because they will not be done with that thing in one day, for sure! It will also give you a second tractor to back up your first if something breaks on it at a critical time, or to just help out while working around the place since two tractors by definition do twice the work of one tractor.

Stay safe and keep your head down!
