not fring on all four cylinders

Mess with the s/c today the firing order is 1342 it wont start but if i switch 2 and 4 around it starts but it has a miss I changed plugs and wire and nothing i do seems to help what updo i have a dead cylinder or is it out of time Im lostany ideals

Sounds like it's way out of time, they will run like that.

Find top dead center on the compression stroke of #1 by taking the plugs out and feeling for compression on #1 with your thumb as you rotate the fan blade by hand. Then look at the points and rotor; points should be just opening and rotor should be near #1 wire. If not, rotate the distributor until the points are starting to open, then arrange the wires so firing order is right.

You need the plug wires on the cap in this firing order. Hal

2-1
4-3 As the rotor rotates CW.

pistons 1 & 3 are pairs and go up and down in the motor together. so does 2 & 4. if you cross wire 2 and 4 and the engine runs, then you may have the wiring backwards on the distributor cap. remove the distributor cap, have someone turn the engine and observe the direction the rotor button turns. the rotor should follow the firing order around the distributor. of course # 1 cylinder is near the fan.
real easy to wire the distributor backwards.

I have rebuilt and repaired scores of 4cylinder engines. I have NEVER seen pistons 1&3 and 2&4 move together! 1&4 and 2&3 move together as pairs one on power stroke the other on intake as pairs. Send me a photo of your crankshaft so I can see a very unusual crank.
