I have oil leaking from the bottom of the bell housing when running. Is it much of a job to split her in half to change the seal? Any trade secrets or do's and don'ts I should about. It dosent look to bad but not to sure what is between the tranny and the clutch. Thanks for any help.

Do you know if it is leaking out of the engine, or is it the transmission front seal. I bet it's the transmission seal. There is no place for the leaking transmission seal to drain except out of the clutch housing near the engine. Splitting a Cub is pretty easy since it's not that heavy. If you know it's the transmission front seal, split at the front of the transmission, not the engine. If it's the transmission seal that is leaking, replace the front bearing of the transmission as well as the seal. On the Cub there is no coupling in the drive shaft, so you have to deal with that. The shaft goes all the way from the transmission into the clutch plate with no coupling. No issue there if you split at the engine, but if at the transmission, you have to roll the two parts farther apart and it's a little tricky getting the shaft lined up to go back in the clutch plate.

The oil that is leaking is pretty black. When I flushed the trans it had water in it so that oil was pretty brown.I belive it is engine oil.I also think I have noisy trans bearings also.Maybe I should do the front bearing and seal at the same time. Thanks for the info.

Its not a bad job, just make sure you block it good so it dont fall on you, it will be coming from the back of the engine.
