504 hydarulics

Hi all, I put a case loader on my farmall 504 to move round bales. Now that I did all the rebuilding to make it fit, it wont lift a bale. The tractor puts out 1600 psi and the loader has what looks like 2 inch cylinders. I"m wondering if the cylinders are just too small for this pressure or is the pressure too low?? I read some archives that there is a relief valve that can be changed or adjusted ??? Is it in the divider valve or inside the pump housing??
Any advice would be welcomed.

In my opinion 2 inch cylinders are too small. The difference between a 2" cylinder at about 3.14 square inches of area, and a 3 inch cylinder at 7 sq inches is massive in terms of capacity. I would not boost the pressure to force the small cylinders to cooperate. Jim

The cartridge for hi-limit pressure is 1600 psi, you could put a 1750 or 2000 in it, these are pricey new go to salvage yard & ask for 1 from a 706 used, should be a 1750. 504 not really made that strong on front axle & wheel brngs for heavy load.

The popoff is probably located on the block on the right side of the rockshaft housing under the seat. Takes a 7/8" socket I believe. They have a factory crimp inside on the thread which makes them near impossible to adjust.

What size and how heavy are the bales you are trying to pickup? Does it sit there and squeel as you try to pick up the bale? How fast does it work when not moving bales? Did you clean the screen and change the filter which affects the fluid flow? What size case loader is it and what is it rated at. 5.5'x6' bales can weigh up to 1500# and not all loaders will handle them.
