1256 injection pump

I said before-the pump is going.it is 'surging'.at 1500 rpm,it goes up 100-down 300to400rpm.ti doesnt reach full rpm and doesnt seem to have as much power(hard to tell just running a swather).Now I'm haveing to bleed the fuel filters daily to get it started.It doesn't seem to be "makeing oil".It once failed to restart hot-I bled the filters and it started(wierd?)There is no evidance of any external leakage.Anyone know the problem.I know I need a new pump. Thanks Steve
 
If making oil refers to fuel going into the pan you can try replacing the two cup seals on the drive shaft. That is my suggestion, but would wait to see what Pete says.
 
You have the typical symptoms of a pump getting air in it. It doesn't happen often but you may have an air leak in the system but yet not leak fuel out. Most often it is a hose. It gets pulled in a little from the vacuum of the charge pump and then expands back again when not running so you have no fuel leaking. Any leak above the level of the fuel in the tank can also let in air but not leak fuel.

Be sure to check at the timing window to see if there are any "coffee grounds". That would indicate the weight retainer ring is breaking up and restricting the return.
 
I had the rubber retaining ring replaced about 10 years ago.those"symtoms" were totally different.
 
The engine knocks-at idle -bad,has for over 10 years.engine was o'hauled be cause of the knock,found nothing to cause a knock.(it was very hard to start and used lots of oil)took to a professional to
"find the knock"-no luck.had injectors worked on-still knocks.smooths out at high rpm/"working"could this be an diesel/injection knock?If it was gonna blowup,it would have done it long time ago.It (the knock)drives me crazy!.could a new pump stop the knock?
 
I have a 1206 that had a similar problem. Cleaned out the tank and fuel system and replaced all the rubber rings and seals and hasnt given me any trouble since. Just remember Occams razor.
I always try the simple stuff first. Its cheaper and usually fixes the problem. Good luck, LarryT
