IH 806 missing and leaking oil out breather pipe

Hello,

I have a '66 IH 806 that I feed cattle with twice daily. It has had a miss for quite a while, and we always thought it was from the prolonged sitting it used to do. We had the pump rebuilt a year ago with no change noted. In February, we replaced the injectors thinking that may be it, again, no change. I put it on the feeder wagon this spring hoping the daily use may help it some. It has not, and it is now running steady drips of oil out the breather pipe. Any ideas are appreciated. Thank you!

Sounds like you got low compression on at least one cylinder. Do a compression test and compare what you have to the original specs.

You should always trouble shoot before buying parts/making repairs. Gets spendy throwing parts at a problem.

I would guess a broken rocker arm. Pull the valve cover and look, as it will be obvious. My 1456 developed a miss a few years back and would have swore it was a bad injector but after talking to the IH mechanic he thought broken rocker arm.....and was right! Depending on where you are at I may be able to help if needed. Good Luck.

If it were mine I would go pull the snot out of it for about 8 hours then see what I have.
Make sure it gets good and warm...not hot...just working warm.

I'm with d282, it could be a bent- broken rocker arm or a bent push rod. My dad owns a 966 with D414 and we have had 2 rocker arms fail and one push rod to get bent and it did the same thing with a little knock each time it did it. The engine in this tractor must be a early model- the new rocker arms are heavier built than the ones on it that fail.
