The starter on my H isn"t getting power. I followed the wires with a test light, I am getting power to the coil but very low voltage is coming out. Is that indication that I need a new coil? Do you guys recommend epoxy or oil filled?
 
You need to check the volts when the starter is enguaged you probably need to clean the ends or maybe a new battery. Your problem isnt in the coil try the volt test first. Maybe refreshing the starter will be the answer. New brushes and cleanint the commutator end along with bearings makes them pretty good
 
The battery is fully charged and I took the starter off and had it tested and inspected. It runs good when I pop the clutch.
 
If the coil is original IH, I would suspect trouble elsewhere in the system. Those coils were built tough--but time takes its toll on electrical parts.
I would check ALL connections from the battery [including ground] on up to the starter---including the starter mounting bolts. If necessary, use star lock washers on starter bolts.
 
When the tractor is setting there the ignition points are usually closed so there is usually NO VOLTAGE on the coils output with respect to frame ground. With the ignition on and points closed there should be zero voltage on its output (to distributor) terminal but when they open there should be battery voltage present.

Probably a bad mechanical switch, Some are on the light bar, some on the front of the steering pedistal, and some are on the starter. If on the starter, the stud sticking up on the side of the starter gets worn and the contact that moves inside the switch fails to make contact. Some new switches still do not touch the stud when the switch is activated.
Most new push button switches are way wrong/cheeply made trash. Jim
