Dent removal

Recently read about removing a gas tank dent using dry ice. I would like to try that. Does anyone know the procedure? Thanks Craig

dents can be removed by shrinking the metal.

heat the spot red hot with a torch, then put the ice on it to instantly cool it. That will shrink the metal in that area faster than the surrounding area - and the metal will sort of "freeze" that way as it cools.

Repeat till the dent is gone.

Obviously if you're using a torch on a gas tank you want to be careful there are no fumes in it.

You don't need dry ice for that - and it could be there's some other process using dry ice that I don't know about - but on the other hand it's the temperature extremes that does the shrinking, so dry ice should work faster - with less mess.

If you get enough dry ice in the gas tank it'll melt and become CO-2 which is not oxygen. Less of a chance of a spectacular event (Ka-Boom) if there is no oxygen around.
