I got my 240 running and now I'm asking a dumb question---well no question is dumb---does the hydraulics use the enging oil? or does it have a separate tank of oil? Where at? thanx

no it does not. resivor is in front of transmisson. look on left side of tractor (when sitting on it) for large bolt head un screw it to fill it sorry prety vague discription could follow lines from the pump to the resivor also

They are seperate. The only location of commonality is between the pump seal, and the gear on the front of the pump, in the timing cover. If the seal leaks, it will fill the enging with Hydraulic oil. Jim

The dipstick could be used in both the engine and reservoir. (I do not know this it may be mentioned in the owners manual), but there is definately no connection between the two systems. The engine oil is to be checked with it shut off for at least a minute or two to let residual upper end oil drain back into the pan.
