Does a wire go from the amp gauge to the alternator and does one go from the switch to the alternator. If not, Please tell me where they go.

A wire goes from the Big stud on the alternator, to the load side of the amp gauge(side not attached to the starter switch). This should be a 10ga. wire. There should be another wire (assumes it is a Delco 10SI alternator) from the #1 side terminal on the alt (or L terminal if Hitachi) to a 3 amp diode with the band toward the alt, or an idiot light, or a 10 ohm resistor. The other end of the light diode or resistor goes to the ignition switch. The electrical device prevents the alt from keeping the engine running when the ignition is shut off. A third wire goes from the #2 terminal (S on the Hitachi) to the output terminal (short wire) The small terminals need to be connected with 12ga wire.
