MTA Starter

Will an Mta starter work on regular M ? I bought an Mta starter, thinking it might have more power. The starter drive teeth not too good. Found a new Delco drive #1868804 which parts book for M said would work on M. It doesn't work on Mta shaft. The collar with the bolt to secure drive assembly to shaft is too small. Thought I could dress teeth on old drive and just go ahead and use it if it will work on the M. What do you all think? Thanks for any help. Buck

A starter for an MTA is not quite the same, it has a 3 bolt pattern using 3/8 inch bolts. An M starter has a 2 bolt pattern using 1/2 inch bolts.

They are different.
Putting 00gauge cables on a refreshed M starter will spin it very well.
There is a new style drive with no big spring that cures drive problems. Jim

OLDTS & JIM ;I took a magnify glass and was able to read starter no. 1107448 so my part was right. Mta drive was painted on part of starter that goes in housing and it is a 2 bold starter.. I will do the double o wire as you all say. Thanks so much
