farmall H belt wheel?

I just purchased a 1941 Farmall H. The tractor does not have a belt wheel or any of the drive. It has a plate over the area it should be. My question is. Was the belt wheel optional? Or has someone removed it and put a plate to cover it. Any insight?

If you did not want one, they could be removed from the factory. Im not sure If it was an option to have it or not to have it. But, there was most definitely a factory delete option.

The belt pulley, like everything else, was an option. If the pulley was not fitted there was a factory delete plate bolted on instead.
Virtually none of the letter series tractors shipped to New Zealand during the 1939-1945 period had belt pulleys, lights or starters, though power-take-offs were generally fitted. Wheel weights seemed to be copied and cast locally, same shape as the IHC ones but no IHC parts numbers or symbols.

There was a belt pulley delete plate (IHC p/n 49053DB) to cover the transmission opening if the belt pulley gearbox was not ordered.

Most likely it's how your H came from the factory.
