Hi all I have a piston out of a 1939 F-20 I think (very hard to read) the part# is 1601-D or 4601-D . I have spoke with Gordon Rice about the rings. It Has 2) compression at top 2) oil at bottom, with drilled holes in the piston skirt groove. He said that is not common most have
3 and 1. Can anyone tell me how close I am with the part# ? and what pistons I have. Also when piston is at TDC it comes above the block by about a 1/4" to 3/8" I have never seen this before. Any help or info Thanks oldiron29

here is one in as-found condition. This one does show a chamfered 3rd ring.

Howard, I just got this unstuck, The third groove is drilled like oil ring should be. The beveled ring was in groove #2 Gordon said he has had a fue guys over the years tell him the same thing I have. Is it posable that only the HA piston had 2 oil rings? I have to pull the rest out this weekend. Just trying to figure out what I have. Thanks for the picture oldiron29

anything is possible. The piston in the pic is a 1601 and it is drilled in the 4th groove only. But who knows if the piston came in a new tractor or was added years later in an overhaul?
