Can anyone tell me if the gas tank from a 42 will fit a 48?

Oh yeah, they're all the same. Seems like there may have been a difference in the outlet hole in some but that wouldn't make any difference.

Most likely will fit. The gas tank on my 1940 H is exactly the same as the tank on my 1950 H.

It might be the '39 and very early '40 that had a smaller hole for the sediment bowl assembly.

As Cowman has said they are all the same with the exception of the Stage II Super Hs that have the outlet moved forward to avoid the hydraulic reservoir. All straight and early Super Hs tanks are the same.
