hi i have a 706 diesel 282 and i was wondering how big a disk can i hope to pull relistically i recently pulled 5-16 with it in sod but i have sand ground

Depending on how deep you run the disk. a 12 foot will do well as tillage. A 14 will do OK as secondary field prep. (opinion). Jim

That must be a real healthy '7' to pull 5-16s!I would guess 3 bottom-4 at best.12 to 14 ' disk is about right.I pull 15' with my '7'(310,turbo).In our irrigated ground, I pull 3 in sod,4 in cornstalkks,bean ground,etc.

thanks i am pulling a ten foot disk now but i need a newer one as mine has seen better days. like i said it is a lot of sand and this tractor had an easy life before me

Heavy 12 foot disk and 4 16s or 18s will be enough. But ive seen 5 16s behind them, (my neighbor 2nd low). I think I cover more ground with 4 16s in 4th.

As for the plow you are dead on. It's not measure in how many bottoms you pull it's how many acres an hour. A tractor pulling 5 16's in 2 low is not going to plow anywhere near as much ground an hour as the same tractor plowing in 4 low with 4 16's.

Now as far as disk goes. Local used equipment dealer whos main customer base is small and hobby farmers says 2 ft of disk for every 10 HP at the drawbar as a rule of thumb. The thing to remember that if you max everything out all the time something is going to wear out or break. If you go just a tad smaller without going to fast for the implement you break down less.

Nebraska test cliams about 62.48 drawbar HP on the 706. You should in light sandy soil be ok with 14' of disk.......I have a 14' disk behind a 94 HP tractor at the drawbar. In lite sandy soil unless I'm running blocks to keep the disk up some it will pull fine in 4low but 1 high isn't good. I would suggest a 12 Ft disk for the 706.
