Super C battery Neg. ground

I am trying to start my s/c question: what will it hurt to hook it up neg ground so I can put the battery charger on it.The Gen. and volt reg are not hooked up.It has a new starter and battery but spins slowly? Need help.TIA mike

If it were mine, I would just disconnect both battery cables and charge the battery with nothing connected to it except the charger. That's the safe way.

Why cant you charge the battery with pos gnd hooked up everyone else does it.

Polarity does not matter as long as you have + to + and - to -. Your problem is likely not the battery or starter if both are new, but the connections. Could be a cable problem. This past Friday I replaced what appeared to be a perfecly good ground cable on my M, was cranking very slowly. Started right up, there was corrosion under the insulation. It is seldom a battery or starter problem.

I charged it for 6 hrs. with a 6v. charger same results.Ground cable makes sense, worth a try update tomorrow
