farmall h for parts

I just have a general question. I have a chance to buy a farmall H that does not run but has a few good parts on it. I noticed that it has the Lift_ All on it. I don"t know much about the lift, but do you think it is a deal to get it. I don"t have a H yet but I am looking to buy one down the road. I would hate to see it go to scrap. Thanks for your input.

It's worth scrap price. Should weigh about 5000 max. Figure that at $500. The other thing to remember is you will get docked for two big tires and two little tires when you take it in for scrap. You could probably take it down to $400-$450. Most good, running Hs have a tough time getting $1000. (WI values) If the tin is exceptional or if it has M&W parts or some other rare item it would certainly be worth buying. It is your call if you want to have $500 tied up in something you might use later. On the upside, they don't make more and the price shouldn't go any lower than that.

The lift all is not rare at all on the big letter series tractors. It is WAY more rare to see one without it.

The price difference is so small ($500) for a scrapper, compared to ($1000) for a running H that I would not consider it. You can put a lot more than that in getting it running. I would only do that if that particular tractor had sentimental value.

If you need to get the money back out of it you can part it out and sell the parts, if you have time. I paid $330 for my first parts H, the sheet metal and steering and seat were all ruined because a tree had fallen on it, and the engine was stuck. I have sold about $1800 worth of parts off that tractor over the past 15 months or so, and I still have a few, mostly heavy, parts left. I originally bought it so I could take the rear rims and tires and weights for my H that I had traded for a few months earlier. Any particular part is not worth a whole lot, but there are a lot of parts on a tractor. I sell used untested liftall pumps for $50 and people have seemed to be happy with that.

For that price you better buy it!!! Those rear wheel weights will cost you that much later down the road. Plus that thing has shutters on it! If you can get those moving, they would fetch at least $100. Must be an early model; looks to have the early front hubs on it. People would be asking $700 for that in central IA. I know because I just looked at an M yesterday in worse shape than that, sitting outside for 10yrs, guy wanted $700. Had no way to help load it and would not budge on price.

For $75 its worth it. Like other said rear weights will have you money back. And the shutters are worth a good bit if you can get them working. As for hauling it. If you have access to a roll back and a chain saw you could probably get it out. Or a trailer with a good strong winch. I've seen cars that were locked solid get pulled onto roll backs so It is possible to have it pulled on one. But good find.

You could easily get your money back on parts. The gas tank looks pretty straight, The air cleaner topper looks pretty good, shutters and rear weights. If you can take the lift all, Pto and belt pulley off you probably have your 75$ back right there. Then you have the rear wheel weights that for for 110 a pair here.

I'm with you. I passed up two Hs and two Ms, & a B this week @ $165 a ton. Wheels missing etc, Yeah, I could strip some parts and then go ahead and haul them in. But that's hard work. In the mean time I'd have a couple thousand dollars tied up that I could well use for other things.

(quoted from post at 04:52:17 05/21/11) It's got the good throttle. That is worth $75 of frustration.

Those M&W style throttles can be purchased brand new for around $30.

So it is only worth $40 of frustration. You know how obnoxious a worn out sawtooth throttle can be.

Yes, I do. I replaced a worn out saw tooth throttle with the M&W style. I spent about one hour running the tractor with that throttle on there, and then ordered a brand new saw tooth. Took that M&W style off and sold it.

That's funny, i have an old M+W that I really like that came on my
H. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste.

Me, too. I was pulling with the SMTA and the sawtooth jumped down to no throttle just like that. I finished 3rd instead of first. After that the sawtooth came off and I am in love with the M&W.

You can get the M&W or just some generic $30 friction throttle? There is a difference IMO. I have the cheap TSC version on my H and I would rather have a crappy sawtooth on that tractor than what I have now.

Do you sell the sawtooth throttle for a B? What is your price?
