Farmall cub wont turn over

the tractor is loose. it was running great a month ago. ever since when i try to engage the starter the is a small click but that is it. the battery is good. the ground is good. i have tried two different starters and i also put a new switch on the starter. Any ideas on what to check? the battery cable maybe?

If there's a starter solenoid used with the starter take a screwdriver and short across the terminals and see if it crank. Make sure the tractor is in neutral before doing this. You may need a new solenoid since you have a click. Hal

Do you know 100% sure that the engine will turn over by hand??? If you do not try that first. If you can not turn it by hand pull the plugs and make sure you do not have fuel or water of something else hyd locking it. I'm guessing this is one of the older ones with the pull rod and switch on the starter. If you can turn it over by hand then double check every battery cable connection. Also you say you have tried 2 different starters do you use the same switch on both or do they have there own.

Maybe. I'd start checking things with my pliers. The end of the wire should try to weld itself to the tractor if you short it to ground with the switch depressed. If it don't you better find out why. WARNING this is a dangerous procedure not recommended to novices.

You should make sure the engine isn't stuck. Use your hand crank to turn over the engine. I would clean all the battery connections until they're shiny and tight and that includes where your battery is grounded. If the cables are cracked I would install 00 new cables. You should be able to start the engine using the hand crank. Make sure its not in gear. Hal

thanks everyone. but it was the battery cables. switched it with an extra one i had and it started right up, didn't hardly turn over and it roared to life.

Great how many times do the cables look good but when you put on a new one wow now it starts. Sometimes the bad place can get warm.
