This mower work on Farmall A?

Is it possible to run this 4' mower with my Farmall A? I am thinking that the A's off-set PTO location probably would prevent use of this type of mower. If you could hook it to pto, am I risking damage to mower &/or tractor?
What are your opinions?
thanks

Try hooking up inline with pto...but your tractor will be offset, and may cause you to want to go one direction.

I agree, offset the mower in line with the PTO. 4' is not too big for an A. The PTO output shaft on an A is set a little high off the ground but I think it should still work OK.

My opinion is that the PTO will work with the mower centered, but you need to be careful turning. If you can get your tractor to the dealer, maybe they will let you run it around the parking lot?

I use a center driven fast hitch mower, 6 foot, on my Farmall 100 with the shaft running at an angle to the mower. I also use an over riding clutch on the shaft. The only problem I have is I have to be careful not to lift the mower too high.will hit on the fast hitch linkage.
I think that the shaft length would be critical for your situation. Over riding clutch is mounted on the pto shaft on the tractor...keeps mower from pushing the tractor when you disengage the clutch.
Good luck

Ya you can run it with no problems that is why it has a set of U-joints in the PTO shaft so it can be run straight behind or off set. Any time you turn the U joints take care of things so no problem. Ya you might want to hook it up So the shaft sits straight behind the PTO shaft but other then that go for it and be careful

Just hook it to the drawbar off-set so the drive shaft lines up straight pulling it just a few inches off-set wont hurt a thing. Dont know why people worry about the pto shaft being off set from center line of the drawbar when you can just hook in line behind the pto shaft.

I tedder hay all the time with a 140, and I just hook the tedder up to the fast hitch pull bar which puts the PTO shaft at an angle. There is no problem except that I have to be careful turning in case the PTO shaft hits the fast hitch linkage. Otherwise it works great. Since your A doesn't have a fast hitch, you won't have any problem running that mower.

I've run a centered rear 3 pt 6' mower behind a 140 for 20 years with the same PTO shaft and not had a problem (knock on wood). Keep the 'u' joints greased and let er rip.

The only thing you need to be very careful about if you hook it up centred on the tractor with the shaft offset, is turning the tractor and mower combo while the shaft is rotating. You'll have less degree of angle to turn because the shaft will already have a couple of bends in the universals due to the offset. Make sure you know what the limit is (given in PTO manual) before you go to work the first time and then try not to exceed it to preserve the life of the u-joints and PTO splines. An over-running clutch, while not essential, would be a very good idea.
