hi there i have brake problem on a sh a 300 a 350 they all have disc brakes and they all suck what can a guy do to make these brakes work like they should does anyone have a good fix thanks tom ih54 i have tryed everything
 
Take them apart and wire brush the fiber disks, and the cast parts. You'll see when you get them apart that they are probably all rusted up. I had to do my 300 virtually every spring because of the condensation caused thru the winter months.
 
had the same problem, took them apart and cleaned all parts with a 3m roloc disc. work fine now.
 
The brakes on my 300 were terrible - the tractor would almost not stop. I was concerned cleaning them up wouldn't do the trick so I sent them to OEM for their disk brake service and they now work perfect. Can't say how long they'll stay that way but its been two seasons since I had the service done and they still working perfect.
 
Define "everything."

All I did to mine was clean out the cobwebs and replace the disks. They were worse than nothing before, and work perfect now.

These brakes will continue to work as long as you don't forget and leave them locked on. Most every one of these old disk brake tractors that I've come across have scorched paint on the brake drums.
 
Have had several brands of tractors with disc brakes and they are all the same. The answer is maintenance. I make it a point to take apart and clean everything up good once a year. Do not have problems then. The only other answer would probably be to store them in a controlled environment.

When I got my 350 Utility its brakes were just about nonexistent. The year before last I tore them down, replaced the discs, balls, and springs, and cleaned everything else. Now if I hop on the brakes hard, the tractor stops so fast the front end oscillates up and down. If I remember correctly, the total cost was about $100 even with the exorbitantly priced springs.
