what would be the effects

Saw an H at a tractor salvage yard today with the head off. Two of the pistons were stepped head pistons and the other two were stock ones. What would this do to the engine? maybe thats the reason why it was in the salvage yard Ha

Very unbalanced and that in turn can brake things like the crank shaft etc. Not good at all and from the get go would have been asking for an engine to blow it's self apart

Gotta DISAGREE with you on this one, old.

NOT that I'm recommending doing this, the pistons MAY actually be the same weight. IMPOSSIBLE to know if not possible to weigh them.

Actually, if mounted to opposite crank throws one would be moving UP while the other was moving DOWN, more or less canceling out any imbalance, ESPECIALLY at the low speeds these old beasts run.

I was talking more or less of an unbalanced compression and also the fact that the 2 pistons would put out more power then the other 2 so to unbalance it as it ran. But no matter what not a good thing to do and would sooner or later cause odd problems
