I need to clean years and years of grease, oil, dust, birds nests and what have you off my 53 super c. I would consider this average accumulation for say 10 years of average use. Before i break my arm trying to scrape all the grime off the entire tractor, I would like assistance in determining if power washing with degreaser, steam cleaning, or elbow grease would be in my best interest.

If the first two options are acceptable, do i/should i remove any electrical components. I already have the battery removed, should I take off the generator and starter? How should i clean those? I am planning on doing an entire electrical overhaul (wire harness replacement) eventually.

Additionally, if steam cleaning is appropriate and safe, does anyone have hints, tips, and tricks on where to find the right type of cleaner, most likely to rent. (all the internet gets me is rug dr.)

Thanks in advance

I would take the electricals off just to get thme out of the way but you can pressure wash them. I did, just give them plenty of time to dry out. Getting that stuff out of the way lets you get into the little cracks the hold the nasty stuff. If you're looking for a good degreaser at NAPA they have this stuff with an orange cap. It's like sea foam brand or something. Can't remember off the top of my head.

The Super C is a simple tractor. Just use oven cleaner and a pressure washer, repeat until done. Use a scraper on the worst places. I cover the electrical parts rather than remove so I can drive it inside when I am done. I then use chemical stripper to get most of the paint off. Then I remove everything so I can get to the rest of the crud. It is then wire wheeled, etc. If you are not going to repaint it, don't use oven cleaner, as it will remove paint.

I would suggest that you remove as much crud as possible by hand first. It is a terrible soil pollutant. Guaranteed that nothing will grow where you cleaned your tractor.
