H liftall system

filled the lift all sytem with oil. Per advice i recieved here, pulled back on the lever and could feel resistance. As well the engine loaded up. A week later, the lever still has resistance, but there is no load on the engine as before. Anyone know why, is that good or bad etc...? Also, the dip stick was loose--not attached to the cap. Should it be?

No, the dipstick is loose from the cap. It is supposed to be attatched to a flimsy washer thing to keep it from falling in the resivoir. Most don't have the dipstick or it is floating around in the resivoir from what I have seen.

Most of those dipsticks are seperate from the cap, but I had one that was actually attached to the cap. Quite a few of those dipsticks were removed and never put back in. Installing a #31 loader requires the dipstick to be removed.

Pulling on the lever with nothing connected really doesn't prove anything. You need to hook up a pressure gauge or cylinder to see if it's actually working.

No. If the pump is working, and if it does have sufficient oil, pulling the lever WILL put a load on the engine.

Another thing about the dipstick. If it is not in place with the washer on it , I have seen that packing which is in the cap for a breather filter get sucked down into the pump and that does not always go well with gears in pump. Doesn't happen often but when it does may well strip threads or break shaft.
