H PTO seal

I am planning to replace the PTO seal on my 1950 H. I have a couple of questions. Do I need to drain the transmission oil, and can you tell me the procedure to get at that seal?

No,you don't need to drain oil,park the tractor on a barn bank or ditchbank so the front is lower than the rear end. Use some chisels and a punch to collapse the seal away from its housing and pick it out,may be in pieces,clean and put a film of grease on the shaft,slide the new seal on and carefully tap it into place. The new seal won't be as wide as the original steel and felt seal. It will go fairly well for you,be patient!
