Choke on my C to make it run

Started getting the eqipment ready for spring (that was a nice thought, stupid snow in april). When i got the old C to fire, I had to keep the choke on all the way. I let it come up to temperature and pushed the choke in, engine sputtered and died. Re-applyed full choke and engine starts again. Decided to try and drive it around, not much power and wants to die every time i engauge the clutch. Any ideas?

Sounds like it is either starving for fuel or your gas is stale. Check lines for clogging and/or drain and add fresh gas.

My Super C did the exact same thing when the manifold gasket was leaking. Pulled the manifold off, cleaned both the manifold and head as good as I could, popped a new gasket on and runs like a dream. If you pull the fuel line and have good fuel flow I would check into this.

I had the same problem with a SC back in the summer. My uncle bought the tractor back in the mid-90s and never got it to run right without it choked - and had to watch it didn't die on him. Must have plowed a hundred miles with that thing with one hand close to the choke handle...

I did all the manifold leak checks and they showed nothing. Ended up taking the carb and rebuilding it twice which included a couple nights in a parts cleaner can.

Ended up taking to my place of employment where they have a parts cleaner that has an agitator. After six hours in that thing it came out looking brand new and whatever had clogged up one of the small passage ways inside was free... Now only have to chock it if it is really cold - other than this it runs like a top.

Good luck.

As the others have said, it's gonna be too much air or not enough gas. That 113/123 down't take much choke at all to get running, and can be flooded in a heartbeat with too much choke when everything is right.

If nothing else had changed, I'd be looking at fuel supply, including a stuck float.

Fresh gas and good flow out the bottom of the carb for fuel. i will try the rubber mallet solution for the stuck float. I will also check the manifold gasket. Thanks for the help!
