I was thinking about entering my 1938 F-20 in a local tractor show/pull this summer and never have pulled a sled before was wondering what gear to pull in? If I pull in 1st will the weight come up to quick on me or if I pull in 2nd will the engine bog down? Thanks for any ideas, Mark.

If a F-20 runs out of power before running out of traction even with loaded tires in 2'nd gear it needs work!! Bud.

Always 1st gear, F-20's are geared fast anyway. Ours used to do good. until all the other tractors went with high horsepower. Will still do good against stock tractors.

being in a pulling club, normally first gear is required. some clubs allow second, because of saftey rules to be followed. the sled box moves at a set speed, fast or slow doesn"t matter. have fun, i do.

When I pulled my F20, I usually ran out of traction before running out of power. I did have wheel weights and let a little air out of the tires. Mine has low rubber; I don't know if that's an advantage or not. I'm thinking not. 1st gear is the only gear to use.
