IIRC there are triangle and/or dot marks that the MD book refers to. Sorry, my books are down the road in the shop so that is all the help I can give you.

Just bought a 281 diesel engine without an injection pump. How do I put my old pump on? I can get my engine on TDC, but how do I know when my pump is on TDC. What do I need to look for. Thanks.

Just line up the marks on the pump and the gear (in the engine) it is very simple to rough time these engines. line it up...
