Late 40's Farmall H Serial Numbers?

A friend of mine is restoring a Late 40's Farmall H and is trying to find the Serial Numbers. He found some numbers, but he's not sure which is which. The numbers he did find are hard to read, but so far it seems like on the Clutch Housing he has found "21U" "8024D" or possibly "80243D" He"s not sure if there is actually a "3" in there or just a scratch that looks like a "3".

On the Trans case he has found "4276-10"

The "8024D" sounds like a Date Code to me but we are not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

Those numbers are all part numbers. The date codes on the tractor are in this format month.day.letter=code for year. All of the information you need is on the website.

The serial tag is on the left side of the clutch housing. The engine serial is on the right side near the top of the block. Originally they would have matched, in my experience.

Appreciate the replies.

Zach, I'm glad you mentioned that as I'm guessing that the Tag is missing. I'll be going there tomorrow to look at it myself. Could you tell me exactly where at the top of block on the right side? This tractor is kind of rusty, as they tell me. Are the numbers "stamped" on and are they known to be hard to read?

Bill, You should see a flat surface right above the distributor on the block near the right front of the engine. Don't look too high as you would then be looking on the cylinder head with the spark plugs. On that machined flat is where the engine serial no. is stamped into the block casting and not on a plate like the chassis s/n is on the left side of the tractor noted by Zach. It might be hard to read but you will have to clean the rust off with a wire brush or something most likelly. Unless the original block has been replaced somewhere along the line the numberical engine no. was matched to the tractor s/n for the Farmall H tractors at the factory. Hope this helps, Hal.

Appreciate everyone's help. I went there today with all the info that I copied and it is a '51. Like I eventually figured, the tag was missing, but we did find the number on the block. Also found many date codes on the whole tractor that were anywhere from early February to late May all in '51.
