Super A Shifter Problem

Hey all,
I'm having a problem that many have had, the tractor is stuck in gear. I removed the top and it seems to be the shift itself, I read in the achives about the end wearing out, I assume that is my issue too. My question is, what are the gotcha's if any when taking these apart? Are there any springs that will want to fly or anything like that ? I also read that you can rebuild them, what does that involve briefly? there seems to be a pin in the casting that I assume is part of the pivot mechanism for the shifter stick (in the base from the topside), does this have to come out? Finally, just anyone with general advice/comments/tips would be appreciated !

THanks in advance.

The shifter could have issues if it was worn or loose at the pivot (just at the spot the lever enters the top cover) it is more likely the ball at the end of the part sticking down into the trans. That should be shaped to fit in the rail grooves with little play, and no interference. Welding it up, and grinding it to fit and work smoothly is the key. In the top of the trans are the shift rails. These must be aligned so the slots are equally placed and in the center (front to back). If there is one of them out of place it will be stuck. you might have to push on the tractor wheels to get the trans free to move the rails. Jim

Thanks Jim,
I have the cover off already, the gears move fine, it's definately in the rail mechanical part. I I guess I just start by taking the bolts that hold the rails in place apart ? I'm gonna take some pictures so I remember how it goes back too.

Well Good News/ Bad News:

The good:
I took the rails apart, the end of the shifter is worn, but I got it un-jammed and it now shifts.

The Bad:
When I put it back on, it seemed to run through the gears, however when I started it, and went to move, it would bog down and wouldn't move. I then put it in neutral and it went in reverse! So I backed it inside (which is really good news!) and I left it for today since it's been one of those days when nothing has gone right anyway.

So.
Do I have the figures which move the gears messed up ? Does this all relate to the worn out shifter ? As always, advice appreciated.

B.

If the reverse gear is not on its shifter fork, the shifter will act pretty normal in its movement, but if put into any gear, it will be in two gears at once. Reverse, and what ever gear is selected. If the tip is worn, but the rails are put in alignment, and the forks (3 of them) are all on there gears, it will shift properly as long as the H plus one pattern is followed nice and square. This means moving the lever straight forward and back when selecting a gear and straight sideways when moving to left and right. If there is a bent fork, (possible, but do not worry about it yet) that would also allow faulty action.
