Alright guys, new to this section and international tractors in general. Fathers lookins at a 1586. Thats all i know, its been sitting awhile in a barn and just waonderin what to look for or if i should have some concerns. Thanks for any help, Toby.

There is nothing dangerous about them. Remove the oil plug gently and catch the first drips in a tin can. If no coolant it is a good sign. It should have a water treatment system to reduce corrosion cavitation issues but it is not a deal breaker. Check all fluids and try to charge the batteries. purge new diesel into the replaced filters, if it will turn over, that is great. If it runs it is worth 50% more than if it does not. If the tires are usable and hold air that is probably 1500 to 2000 right there you will not need to spend. Others should chime in, do not drag it down the road, it will not start by pulling it. The hydraulics must be operational to put power through the TA. Jim

The 436 motor is an excellent engine, The only down side with a 1586 and even the 1566 and 1568 is they are only a 3 speed transmission verses the 4 speeds in the 1486. IF it were me i would try to get it running first, that way you can check the clutch, trans, TA, and rearend. If the TA is out your looking at atleast $3000-$5000 if you get a dealer to do it. You can do it yourself but it is a very labour intensive job. Good luck and let use know how you make out.

Thanks Guys, my father started it up with new bateries and couple hours of warmin up. Guess they said the head was making a noise like it had a valve problem. Also said they always started it on ether so im i little shy but its his money and will always welcome another tractor to the fleet. Thanks Again Toby
