starting problems- stumped

I believe I have electrical problems - I have a 12 volt conversion with a 6 volt coil and a ballast resistor- replaced one wire today and then showed about 12 volts at the connection before the resistor and 7 after the resistor. Before that change, they were showing about 10 and 5. However still not starting. I took my battery in to load test it a couple of weeks ago and they said it was ok. When I charged it last night and today - the charger showed "rev polarity"- I have it connected properly. I have no idea what this means and if it has affected the electrical system and whether or not I can still use this battery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you charge it installed in the tractor or dis-connected from the tractor? If connected and you got that reading, you've got some wires crossed somewhere, check your ammeter and your battery, is it positve ground ? Did you change the generator/alternator, if so, which do you have?
Good luck on finding the problem.

Try hooking the charger to a battery that is known to be connected correctly--your car or pickup. See if the "reverse polarity" light comes on. If it does, the charger has problems. If not, was the battery completely discharged when you charged it in the first place. Even though the batt. was just about flat, you would have known the charger was hooked up wrong. I've heard of batts. being charged opposite of normal, but the batt. was COMPLETELY flat.
