Is there a good weatherstripping material that anyone has used to put between the hood and the grill/tank? I would assume the thinner the better.

Thanks.

We used truck camper tape on a lot of sheet metal to sheet metal joints, has self adhesive one side so it won't slip.Hope this helps,LOU

On p51 mustangs (the ww 2 fighters we refurbish) we use hockey tape, the clear stuff you put around your shin pads that you buy at sports store for a couple of bucks for 5 rolls. The stuff lasts for years and where the parts overlap you can peel it off and no residue and the paint is mint. There is a higher grade mylar tape made just for that purpose but costs alot more and does the same thing. I've had it on my 706 for 6 years.

Are you in CA? When I was flying the remade P-51's at China Lake Ca circa 1975 They were out of FlightSystemsInc?
Want to hear about my spin around the Mohave pylons in an F-86 against the prop guys?

a strip cut from an innertube and use some 3m weatherstrip adhesive works well. bicycle tube for a thin strip, car or tractor tube for a thicker strip. if you want something nearly invisible, get some clear cabinet door bumpers from the hardware store. they are clear self stick "buttons" work well also.

I'm actually in goderich ontario. We just finished a PBY last week and tomorrow I'm working on a c47 and a p51 called "the rebel" that was just converted back to stock from being a reno racer. You ever race against

I use 3M one sided tape.It works very well.I also use 3 M door edge trim(chrome)on the hood edges to keep it from rubbing the grill and the fuel tank edges.
