I don't know why I'm posting this, but here goes... I have a 1956 300 u. It sits outside under a tarp in SW Pennsylvania. I haven't run it in two weeks.. I went out last evening and it started, I think in less than one revolution... I think that is remarkable.

Remarkable enough that I am posting it.... how do you like that?

My tractors all start easily in cold weather. The operator is a bit sluggish though when the temps drop much below +20°.

Not unusual if you can keep it running. If it started and died, it would probably have flooded -- THEN it would be hard to start.

Hey I think its just great...

I am all too familar with the aggravation of a motor that won't start...

It is remarkable it starts as new considering 80% of the posts here on the forum have to be due with starting problems. You must be doing good maintenance. I used to have an old Datsun that was before fuel injection, it always ran like a champ, but points, plugs, coil, wiring was always up to spec, factory parts the best. I think some people don't know how to maintain older gas engines. I have a 30 year old Kubota diesel tractor and it sits for weeks at a time and it starts right up in a couple seconds. Nothing fancy there just good fuel and a little oil additive in the fuel once in a while.

Also have to say the best starting IH was a 1953 pickup, 20 below no problem. Sometimes the tractors sat outside and the pickup was inside in an unheated shed, but could start and deliver hay to the cows easier than we could start any tractor.

My 1955 300U used to start right up, but lately it's been a miserable POS to start. I suspect I must have messed something up when I rebuilt the carb.
