friend of mine has a lot of foamying in his hyd. system I have not ran across this problem before pump or unit?

The obvious would be low oil level or wrong oil. Most likely it would be caused by a leak on the suction side of the pump. A small pinhole where a line is rubbing or an o-ring eroding at a connection is all it takes.

Whats he using for oil? Hydraulic oil was put in mine before I got it, foamed alot and almost lost them after running for about an hour. Idrained it and put in ND 30 wt and it stopped foaming.

pulled the pump off and someone else did not put right seal in plus gears were worn and floppy I had a old one to fix him up. thanks rterry

It sounds most likely to me that it has detergent motor oil in it. The detergent in oil, kind of acts like dish soap, it will froth and foam, and cause your hydraulics to act very bumpy.
