Radiator Refill

OK, serviced the ol' H for the winter; I use it to plow out my lane when the snow makes it necessary. Anyway, service included oil and filter change, tune up kit and plugs, drain radiator and refill. This year I replaced the radiator hoses, too. Anyway, tractor was running great. Ran it up the lane, pushing only 5" of snow. Turned around and the thing started running REALLY bad -- miss-firing, lack of power. Ran it back to the barn and parked it. Now I notice a "vent plug" shown in the Operator's Manual, located on the side of the thermostat housing. Was I to bleed off air as I refilled the radiator? Did I foul up here, and damage something? If not, why did it suddenly start running like a d@mn Yugo? Thanks guys.

Couple of things--snow got melted & got on distributor cap/ wires & spark is being lost. Dry cap with hair dryer as well as wires.
Carb could be a trifle lean-- open the main jet a 1/4 turn & see if it improves.
Could be a bad condenser---points---even though new.

You know, I didn't replace the cap; maybe I'll go get one this morning. Get another condenser as well. As for the carb -- to me, even touching the carburetor is taboo -- only done if you intentionally want to provoke the rage of the Fuel Gods. I'll try the other things first. I have a buddy who is an Ordained Carburetor Priest of the Holy Church of Sediment Bowls. I'll get his help to exorcise my demons if the other things don't help. Thanks, Brownie!!

I think Brownie nailed it with melted snow on he cap/ plug wires. If the hair dryer tip fixs the problem, get a can of Fluid Film and spray your wires and cap. That will keep a repeat from happening. We use it on one of our plow trucks and on our V box salt spreaders as they are prone to the plug wires getting wet.
