Touch control

Yet another question on my Super A.
The touch control for the front cultivator is kind of stiff to move. I lubed up the connection and it didnt get much better. The cultivator comes up and down when you move the touch control less than 2 inches. If you move it just a little bit, it will either come all the way up or go all the way down. Could it be out of adjustment?

Essentially what Im saying, when you move the lever, it should go up and down very gradually with how much you move the lever. Instead, when you move the lever down just an inch or so, the cultivator goes all the way down or all the way up.

You will notice the levers are friction loaded and sometimes they need a good lubing up so they move free. They are loaded by tightening the nuts on the end of the shaft. I would un-hook the clevis till you get the levers working good. Then check the stops on the unit where the rod hooks. You mite need to adjust the clevis so the lever on the unit moves in its travel between the stops. The starter needs to be removed to get that side off at least thats the way ive done them. But getting the lever on the unit sometimes takes some playing with to get it to move free and smooth. Those are great units and work well when everything is up to snuff. I asume you have cleaned the screen and flushed and are using 30 wt oil. I have done this procedure to get them up to snuff. My B with the system works well.

Check under the front of the TC unit to make sure the feedback or canceling linkage is connected, free and working. This linkage returns the spool valve to neutral when the rockshaft has moved to the position that corresponds to the position you have set the lever. In other words, the spool valve has to know the position of the rockshaft and the manual lever in order to return the spool to neutral at the proper position of the rockshaft.

With all due respect to Gene, I would use Hy-tran or a good universal tractor hydraulic fluin in the TC.

If its out of adjustment it could happen thats why i would unhook the linkage and move the lever on the unit and check if it has any play ect.

Gene,

I found that on the problem side of the touch control unit, The pin was only half way in, it was twisting the control rod and by the time it pulled the sleeve out, the lever was almost all the way forward. I believe I found my problem.

Thanks for being so helpful.
